George, by George!
“George Nostrand has an affably freewheeling sound and his local compadres often swing by for the party…He must spend more time playing music than sleeping.”
– Robert Resnik, VPR/ Seven Days
An entertainer and storyteller, George Nostrand is at home on stages of all shapes and sizes. Back when his beard was just a five o’clock shadow, his act was charmingly dubbed, “acoustic morsels” by a Burlington coffee shop owner. Since then, Nostrand's menu has grown, now offering a musical stew seasoned with tunes from various genres and generations, served with a healthy helping of his own timeless music. George has released three full-length studio albums, several singles and a number of live recordings. He’s also appeared on a half dozen other artists’ albums.
“George is idiosyncratic, with a classic rock and Americana sound that edges into other genres as well. Vocally, I hear Tom Petty, but I can also hear both Jerry Jeff Walker and Todd Snider his exuberance.”
– James Gage, Green Mountain Global, WFVR 96.5 FM
His band, George’s Back Pocket is a favorite at local venues and festivals and has been compared to everyone from early Grateful Dead to Asleep At The Wheel. They are also heavily influenced by The Wood Brothers, Traffic, and Strangefolk. George and his bands have opened for acts ranging from Lui Collins to Robert Randolph & The Family Band. It’s not uncommon to see him pop up in other bands, and he’s usually got a side project or two going. He is currently co-writing with several artists for his next record.
“Sit back on your porch and have a beer with some friends or cry in your beer at a lonely roadhouse bar - George will be right there with you - with a story and a song to share.”
– Dave Hoffenberg, Rockin’ the Region, The Mountain Times
